Observation of Scaling Behavior in a Coulomb Blockade System

چکیده

We describe two experiments to study the influence of fluctuations in the electron charge on the transport properties of a quantum dot. First, we scan a device from singleto double quantum-dot behavior by varying the conductance of a connecting point contact. Second, we measure the dependence of the charging energy on the conductance of the barriers. The experiments are compared with traces obtained from a theory based on a Luttinger liquid type description. This theory predicts a scaling behaviour of the charging energy, in good agreement with our experiments.

The Analysis of Coulomb Blockade in Fullerene Single Electron Transistor at Room Temperature

The Graphene based single electron transistor (SET) as a coulomb blockade device need to be explored .It is a unique device for high-speed operation in a nano scale regime. A single electron transfers via the coulomb barriers, but its movement may be prevented by coulomb blockade, so its effect is investigated in this research. The conditions of coulomb blockade and its controlling factors such...

Coulomb blockade in an open quantum dot.

We report the observation of Coulomb blockade in a quantum dot contacted by two quantum point contacts each with a single fully transmitting mode, a system thought to be well described without invoking Coulomb interactions. Below 50 mK we observe a periodic oscillation in the conductance of the dot with gate voltage, corresponding to a residual quantization of charge. From the temperature and m...

Observation of a Nanoscale Metallic Dot Self-Consistently Coupled to a Two-Level System

We have observed anomalous transport properties for a 50 nm Bi dot in the Coulomb-blockade regime. Over a range of gate voltages, Coulomb blockade peaks are suppressed at low bias, and dramatic structure appears in the current at higher bias. We propose that the state of the dot is determined self-consistently with the state of a nearby two-level system (TLS) to which it is electrostatically co...

Chapter 3 . Coulomb Blockade In Single And Double Quantum Dots

A few years ago, Professor Kastner's research group discovered that the conductance through a quantum dot weakly coupled to the leads shows periodic peaks as a function of the voltage on a gate electrode. 1 This behavior was attributed to the phenomenon of Coulomb blockade: to add an electron to the dot, the system must have an energy equal to the electrostatic energy of a dot charged by one el...

Observation of ionic Coulomb blockade in nanopores.

Emergent behaviour from electron-transport properties is routinely observed in systems with dimensions approaching the nanoscale. However, analogous mesoscopic behaviour resulting from ionic transport has so far not been observed, most probably because of bottlenecks in the controlled fabrication of subnanometre nanopores for use in nanofluidics. Here, we report measurements of ionic transport ...
